The World’s Largest Casino

According to the American Gaming Association, 51 million people—an amount that represents roughly a quarter of the population over 21—visited a casino in the United States in 2002. This figure doesn’t include the estimated number of people who visited casinos outside of the country or the numbers who did so illegally, as many gamblers do.

The largest casino in the world is the Venetian Macau in China, followed by the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut and the MGM Grand Las Vegas Hotel and Casino in Nevada. In terms of sheer square footage, the Foxwoods is the world’s second-largest casino after the Venetian.

Casino is the most violent film of director Martin Scorsese’s career. The violence is not a mere style choice, though; it’s a faithful depiction of the gangster lifestyle. The scene of De Niro’s character being tortured with a vice, the death by overdose of Joe Pesci’s character, and the murder of the mob boss played by Robert De Niro are all based on actual events that took place to the real-life characters in the movie.

One of the most common tricks casinos employ is strategically placing essential facilities such as toilets and restaurants deep within the gaming floor. This means that players must walk past numerous slot machines and tables every time they need to cash out or use the restroom, increasing their chances of making spur-of-the-moment decisions to keep gambling. Without external cues like clocks or daylight, casinos can also make hours feel like minutes, causing players to spend more than they originally intended and leading to larger profits for the casino.
