Unlike a game like chess, which is based on complete knowledge of the situation, poker mimics real life in that information is revealed as a hand is played. As a result, there is always a degree of uncertainty in determining whether a bet is for value or as a bluff. Therefore, a successful poker player must learn to think critically about each situation they are faced with.
