The best possible poker hand is a straight, a five-card hand that is not a flush, straight flush, or a royal flush. When more than one player has two pairs, the winner is the player who holds the highest pair. Alternatively, the highest unmatched card breaks ties.<\/p>\n
Poker can be played with any number of players. An ideal number is six to eight. A standard deck of 52 cards is used. Cards may be face down, and all players can discard up to three.<\/p>\n
The dealer deals cards to each player one at a time. The player to the left of the big blind is first to act. During the draw phase, each player can reshuffle their cards.<\/p>\n
After the draw, a betting round occurs. Players bet in clockwise order, and the pot is won by the highest hand. Each player must place a certain number of chips into the pot. If a player does not place a chip into the pot, he is said to “stand pat.”<\/p>\n
