Poker is a card game where players bet on their hand. A poker player’s hands are composed of five cards, two of which are dealt face up. One of these is the hole card. In order to win, the player must make a bet that matches the total amount of other players.<\/p>\n
The pot is the sum of all bets made by all the players in a single deal. This pot is split as evenly as possible. However, the best hand does not always win the pot.<\/p>\n
In the most basic of games, each player buys a set number of chips, usually the same color. These chips range from dark colored ones, which are worth two or four reds, to the white ones, which are worth ten or twenty whites.<\/p>\n
Some Poker variants have betting intervals. Each betting interval begins with a player bet and ends with a corresponding drop. Players may check, raise or fold.<\/p>\n
A poker variant called stud poker involves an ante, which is paid by the player before he makes his bet. A special fund known as kitty is established for the purpose. It is used to pay for the purchase of new decks of cards.<\/p>\n
Another variant, three-card Monte, is played with a fewer cards. Three cards, of one suit, are used to construct a straight. Two other hands, a flush and a full house, are also built with the same five cards.<\/p>\n
